Having fun in the water is only the beginning
Learn to swim in a fun, friendly environment
We believe everyone can enjoy the freedom of swimming in a safe, supportive environment with qualified instructors.
Every child’s first experience of swimming lessons is different.
At the Aquatic Academy we see the full range, from the nervous or tearful, to the calm or fearless. And we know just how important it is that these first few lessons lay the best possible foundations. That’s how safe, confident, happy swimmers develop.
So we offer something that not every swim school does. And it involves you having some fun in the pool too!
Adult and child lessons are about two things: gently introducing your child to the water, and teaching you how to be safe and have fun with them.
Our aim is to develop your child’s confidence, co-ordination, balance, water safety skills and swimming technique during the 16 week course of lessons. The half hour lessons include singing songs, playing games, splashing and swimming, building the FUNdimental foundations to enable your child to join a Wave One group class.
We recommend the Adult and Child class If children are under five years old and haven’t had swimming lessons before, are nervous about a new environment, new teacher or joining a group. Our experience shows that this is a great introduction to swimming and the children progress to the Wave One group class confident and happy in the water.
Not all swim schools are the same, and at the Aquatic Academy we know how important it is that you find the right environment and the right teaching for your child.
Here’s how we do things.
Lessons here are safe, structured and supportive. Our instructors are some of the most experienced around and are committed to developing your child’s swimming into a life-saving skill as well as a hobby. This matters to us as much as it does to you.
We follow the Learn to Swim Wales, teaching plan. So you’ll see progress, and you’ll see smiles. Because we believe in the power of fun-filled learning! It’s how children develop into confident, competent swimmers. And it’s what makes them, and you, look forward to their next swimming lesson.
At the Aquatic Academy, swimming lessons aren’t just for children.
We have some great groups of grown-ups who are learning to swim, improving their stroke, swimming efficiency, and getting fit.
Our adult lessons are carefully structured so that you get the most out of them and that we get the very best out of you. With a maximum of 5 people in a lane class, we put lots of care into making sure the people in each group are matched in ability and objectives
Our non-swimmers class is for people who have never been in the water, or who are fearful, perhaps because of a near-drowning experience. The Beginners class is best for people who are not yet water-confident, and who want to be able to swim short distances comfortably. We have an improver’s category for people who want to develop their technique and become more confident. We also teach advanced swimmers who want to take part in triathlons and long-distance swims.
If you have a medical condition, please tell us, and we’ll make sure that lessons are designed to suit you.
One-to-one sessions are available to anyone, whatever their ability.
Where an adult or child swimmer is particularly nervous of the water, or has a physical or mental impairment, then private lessons are really benificial. The teaching is designed around the individual’s abilities and their aims. It also factors in less obvious challenges that may face the swimmer, for example communication or concentration difficulties.
Private lessons are for a huge range of people, from children with autism, to adults with physical disabilities, to people who have had a bad experience in water or who just want some intensive sessions to boost their fitness or to improve their swimming technique. Our swimming teachers are hugely experienced in working with people of all ages, including those with physical and mental impairments.
Our teachers have the knowledge, understanding and skill to transform the swimming – and the swimming experience – of every person. So whether you’re looking to become safer and more confident in the water, or to develop your technique and stamina, private lessons are a great option.

“My 2 children, 10 & 6, have been making super progress over the past year under the watchful eye of Delyth and her team. Even when she’s not teaching my children directly she always seems to know in detail what progress they are making. This individual involvement is why we keep signing up for the next course. Well done Delyth and Co!”
“Having me in the water too was just what Harry needed when he started at the Aquatic Academy. It got him used to the pool, the teachers and the other children. His confidence has rocketed and he’s now making great progress through the swimming stages…..and I get to cheer him on from poolside!”
